UNWRITTEN POEMS

letters hung out
on the red carpet
waiting, waiting, waiting
for the poet to arrive
letters wore their best innuendos
they entered as diphthongs and
contractions
they mated as heterosexual vowels
with bisexual consonants
they were on their best behavior
waiting, waiting, waiting
but the poet
refused
to sharpen her pencil
