NIGERIA, MY NIGERIA or QUILTED TEARSDROPS or WHEN BLACK GIRLS GO MISSING
(by Yolantha the Poet)
my heart is torn
in such
American
afrocentric pieces
my tears are scraps
of love pieced together
for young girls who go
missing in the dead of the night
and are invisible in the life of the day.
(a poem from the cross-bread banquet of Yolantha, the new Maya Angelou, seasoned with Gwendolyn Brooks, bathed in Langston Hughes, peppered with Angela Davis, Sprinkled with Mother Teresa, lathered in William Shakespeare, rolled in Edgar allen Poe, embellished with Annes Sexton, skimmed from the Motherland breakfast tables of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie)
