DOING RIGHT BY A CHAIR or MY BELIEF SYSTEM or WOW, YOUR APPLE SURE TASTES GOOD!

(out of the mouth of babes)
do you have to believe in Jesus?
FAITH IN A CHAIR
the little girl asked,
“Do you have to believe in Jesus to do the right thing?”
I said, “No”
She said, “Good, cuz I know some people who believe in Jesus and they are always doing the wrong thing.”
I didn’t get into some deep religious discussion, I just hugged her and said, “I know”
I left reminded of what, Jesus once said to me while I was serving in Haiti:
“Yolantha, you wouldn’t be half bad, if you believed as much in me as you believed in that chair that you are sitting in.”
It seems that it’s easy for me to do right by a chair (no matter how rickety it is) than to do right by God.
Years later I’m still thinking about the little girl’s question. If you are blindfolded and told here, let me give you a bite of my apple and they then put a slice of orange in your mouth, that brief moment between belief and reality is where our Spiritual temperature stands. Most of us would say, YOU LIED TO ME, THIS IS NOT AN APPLE…but I fear there have been times when I responded, WOW, YOUR APPLE SURE TASTES GOOD!!!)
